Recently, our middle school tigers got the opportunity to visit the Fort Stanton Caves. Our tigers got to venture into the cave and see the many beautiful sights inside. They were given information about the caves and offered a chance to ask questions about the seemingly endless tunnels.
These caves have been on record since 1855, when a nearby U.S. army fort, the Cave Bears, was established. The stone itself is over 300–240 million years old. The cave was formed through dissolution by carbonic acid and erosion from a slowly moving underground stream. A marvel in itself, the caves have yet to fully be mapped and explored.
